About the CODEN Database

This database should assist you in preparing reference corrections for the HEP database in SPIRES.  The coden is the 5 letter code we assign to the journal in which a reference can be found.  Rather than storing the full names of the journals in our citations, we store the code, which is less ambiguous.  This database is meant only to assist people who might need to know these codens for SPIRES use, they may not always match other coden systems (thought they usually do) and this is certainly not a list of journals included in SPIRES or available at the SLAC library.
